I've been quiet lately b/c I've been busy scoring a brilliantly written Star Wars short film by Wong Fu Productions (which takes place on another planet and deals with the aftermath of a major event in A New Hope). Though it's difficult to weave something original that feels like it fits into the world of Star Wars (I'm constantly questioning myself how John Williams would handle it), I've truly been having a wonderful time playing with so many artistic and musical ideas that the scope of most projects wouldn't allow me to have.
To put the icing on the cake, the director, Wesley Chan recently mentioned that hearing his film come alive with music that really sounds like Star Wars music, was more exciting to him than seeing The Force Awakens. This is what I love most about my job, seeing how the magic of putting music into a project in the final stages of an exhausting process of making a film can reinvigorate a filmmaker!
