Memories of 1 July 1993

Found these while rummaging thru some old stuff i had stashed away eons ago:

The concert tickets are already extremely faded, as are the memories of the concert itself on that rainy night...flashback music

...i had taken a bus that afternoon down to Specialist Centre (which isn't there anymore) along OrchardRoad, intending to buy 3 $50 tickets for that night's concert from the SISTIC outlet located at the basement. It was my treat for my mum and sis, for accompanying me to go see Sam's concert that very same night.

i was informed that the $50 tickets were sold out but $80 tickets were still available. So i headed to a nearby ATM and withdrew everything i had (except the minimum amount required to keep my account active)...but i was still $5 short.

In my desperation, i recalled a recent aquaintance told me she worked at the front desk of Hoiliday Inn, which wasn't too far away. It had already started pouring outside but i couldn't spare the money to take a cab or buy an umbrella nor did i have the time to take a bus home to get more money. So i ran through the downpour to the hotel, soaked to the skin, and asked for my acquaintance at the front desk.

You can imagine how awkward it was for me, standing in my own puddle of rain water, shivering and out of breath, asking for a $5 loan from this girl i barely knew but was having a huge crush on since meeting her a a friend's birthday party.

Mission accomplished, i ran back to get my precious tickets, took a bus home, showered, gulped down my dinner and we took a cab to the Indoor Stadium. Walking into the concert, Sam was already belting out medley of familiar favourites...end-of-flashback music

Like i said, the concert itself is all a blur now...it's been more than 15 years..or maybe it was the onset of the fever i had for the next 2 days from all that runnning around in the rain and in & out of air-conditioned places...

But Sam was worth it! :)
