Diary: report card from this time last year

Hey,

Time to recall what has happened in the past year and the plans going forward.

This time last year I remember I was busy practicing for a friend's wedding.  It was just a casual one-off performance. At that point, for demographic purposes, I was a "Project Manager" and I had no intention to pursue my old love: music. But it is on that stage where I questioned myself asking "why I quit music?".  That feeling of playing the guitar and getting people excited is so hard to describe.  It was euphoric and I'm not looking to have any modern medicine to give me that feeling!

Since then, maybe it was a calling, but I felt the need to do something (different).  The need to improve my craft, the need to communicate to the world in a different way. The need to take out my 70's reissued Fender Stratocaster.

I have since then felt the need to write songs and to perform

Maybe it's a crisis, but I prefer to call it "in search of meaning".

Fast forward to now.  I have written a few songs (all need reworking / rewriting).  I have jammed with what is probably the only blues band in HK: Helter Skelter and there are the 'specials' like the impromptu jam with Jun Kung at Backstage.  And of course, I have also joined the community of Alive Not Dead.

Were there days where I think I should quit?  Yes for sure! Do I feel mistunderstood? You betcha!   Are my friends starting to think that I'm weird? Check!  Were there days where i put on my business hat and go 'this doen't make sense financially'? Check! But I guess it's part of the 'being an artist' package and I'm accepting that now, slowly but surely.

For the next few months, I'm going into hiatus, but in a good way.  I will be undergoing training in production @ Baron's School of Music and I'm really looking forward to 'up' my game on the production side with an aim to release my self debut EP (looking to be an end of the year digital only release)

Thanks to all of those who have supported me along the way (especially YW, who got me out to play guitar again this time last year)

You won't stop hearing from me!

Eric
