Example of work uploaded to my website, Change of Season.

Sitting in the car I watch the hills go by and the road reveal itself before me as I drive along a sweeping and twisting road weaving its way up to Castle Hill. Once there my breath is stolen by the view and the feeling of awe. Victoria Tower stands proud and resolute behind me, its mighty shadow flooding the east side of the valley in darkness. On the western side the setting sun throws down a blanket of gold over the town of Huddersfield as if it were being kissed goodnight by Helios.

Above me the sky is clear, saver the night time clouds’ gently drawing in as Mother Nature whispers her soothing lullaby. A nearby horse whinnies in reply. A melodic masterpiece explodes in my ears, birds singing and the sound of laughter behind me as a child flies a kite with his father and the rising and falling of distant cars carrying their precious cargo home to a waiting family and hopefully a warm meal.

A smile creeps across my face as I sit perched on a hillside listening to the sweet cooing of courting couples. Walking by me hand in hand and lost in each other’s eyes.

That once golden blanket no longer exists; in its place a dull cloudy duvet and a soft red and pink hue steals over the horizon. A sign that another day is almost over; another night to come and the quiet creatures of the night come out to play.

I stop and I listen and take it all in as my toes and fingers grow numb to the cold breezy air. My place of peace and tranquillity where I don’t need to worry about impressing anyone, the once place where I know I can be myself and let my imagination run wild as I watch medieval battles unfold on the fields beneath me, imagining what the land around me would look like adorned with snow and picturing a classic duel take place at the foot of Victoria Tower.

Just a blue, green and brown view to awaken my senses and relax my tortured mind as I close my eyes, take a long deep breath, pull out my note pad and pen, steel my soul and write. Tonight I shall sleep peacefully and say to myself “Thank you Mother Nature for giving us that beautiful Castle Hill.”

Visiting back at the change of the season, the scene is different. No more do the birds singing, no more do the dogs frolic or sung bathing cats swish their tails.

Shivering where I plant my feet, howling wind swirls around me, whistling through my ears. White faries dance through the frosty air, pirouetting prettily before laying to rest upon the icy mantle.

Slipping and sliding I try to move, its impossible. The freezing wind hurls me backwards, the white icing below me hurts as I land with a crack.
