At the turn of the 21st Century, people are increasingly flocking to ideas as opposed to plain monuments for tourism attractions. It’s amazing to see when change struts its stuff.
In no particular order:
1. Seoul, Korea
Attraction: Public Bridge
Why?: It will essentially be a solar-powered car-free zone filled with scenic gardens, stores, alongside a library and a museum.
2. Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Attraction: Sustainability
Why?: A city solely powered by solar and wind energy with its objective to have zero wastage. On top of that, the only vehicles operated will be mass transit and pod-like locomotives traveling underground.
Who wouldn’t want to live the Jetson life?
3. Tallinn, Estonia
Attraction: Public Wi-fi
Why?: WI-FI is accessible and available to everyone and anyone, every and anywhere!
Need I say more?
4. Cleveland, Ohio, USA
Attraction: Urban Farming
Why?: It’s developing Green House Shopping Malls, where vegetables are grown on the spot and sold at the Mall’s market.
5. Sochi, Russia:
Attraction: Sports Stadium
Why?: Clothed in semi-transparent material, spectators can absorb the sunlight as well as take a look at the breath-taking night views during the 2014 Winter Olympics
6. Dezhou, China
Attraction: Energy Grid
Why?: Its a Solar City!
7. Paris, France
Attraction: State of the art Public housing
Why?: Who wouldn’t want to live in a residential designed by kick ass architects? I’d wake up in the morning feeling like P.Diddy!
8. Curitiba, Brazil
Attraction: The Ideal Public Transport System
Why?: Now usually when I think of South America the thought of coffee beans, Cuban cigars and ponchos appear. But recently, the Brazilians have shocked me by creating an uninterrupted bus route. Since the low cost fares are paid prior to loading up on the bus, everything is Speedy Gonzales!
9. Taichung, Taiwan
Attraction: Floating Observatories
Why?: You can see the view of the city on observational decks which rotate up and down the skyscraper. It’s like being on a giant ferris wheel!
10. London, UK
Attraction: The Shard
Why?: It will be the tallest building in Europe with its head in the clouds. Cloud no.9 shouldn’t be far from it.
11. Tokyo, Japan
Attraction: A Mega-City Pyramid
Why?: To solve the housing arrangement architects have designed a pyramid in which 750,000 inhabitants can reside in. What’s even cooler is that they get to travel in ‘Personal Rapid Transit Pods’, so you’d feel like you were the main star in one of those epic Sci-Fi films.
12. Pacific Ocean
Attraction: Residential Zones on ‘Green Floats’
Why?: You are living ON an ocean! Nuff said!
13. Ocean
Attraction: The Gyre - The Floating Skyscraper
Why?: You’ll be living in the close equivalent of the Lost City Atlantis, submerged underground.
