There’s a reason why the SATs are only taken by kids. Here’s why:
You see, as a tutor, you’re meant to guide your students/victims through picking the right answer choices. One strategy is by identifying the relationship between the two variables by making a sentence. The best answer would be a ‘definitional sentence’ which is when either word will be found in each other’s definition, for example a kitten is a baby cat (I’ve used this ten times over) . But I’ve found some of the answers on the test would be chosen differently by an adult opposed to a child.
The substantial evidence is as follows:
Exhibit A:
(A) grocery is to shop
(B) glove is to play
(C) car is to race
(D) printer is to photograph
(E) cupboard is to store
The Discussion:
Student: Ok, Satchel is used to carry things.
Me: Uh huh…
Student: Grocery is used to shop? No, couldn’t be.
Me: Yes…
Student: Hmm, is a glove used toplay?
Haha, why yes of course. Now,to an adult this would have been the best answer, but to a teeny-bopper? It wouldn’t make sense. And there was my dilemma. Did I really want to divulge the birds and the bees to a fourteen year old ?
Student: Miss, so is a glove used toplay? I don’t think so right??
Me: Right.
Exhibit B:
14. ????? is to amusement as
(A) rant is to sadness
(B) greeting is to politeness
(C) song is to talent
(D) frown is to displeasure
(E) wink is to approval
I’m going to leave this answer up to you. But, all I’m going to say is mine is something I do Friday night, on the regular, when they looking right. ;)
LMAO.
My point is, I would have failed the SAT.
