Yeah, I'm going to do exactly that. No reason for me to support a company that do not care about their consumer.
Bought a Sony HD video cam(HDR-SR12E) for close to S$4000 in March 2008, not a great deal perhaps to Sony. I have thought the product was under three years warranty, well I was wrong. You know how most of the time we do not really read the warranty until you need to get your products to be sent into the service centre for repair.
Well apparently they need you to send in a "Domestic Warranty Registration Form" to get your warranty to be valid. So even if you produce the receipts of your purchase, produced the application for your very first service, the product is considered as "unregistered Warranty" in the "warranty column.
What is most timely is that the HD cam simply starts to give problems just over a year. Just slightly over a year, one of the internal cable has loosen, my HD screen turns blank intermittenly, and slowly it stopped completely, I am always careful and take extremely good care of my electronic products but however careful I am, there's no way that I can be careful with something totally beyond my control. If the cable came loose because of the flipping open of the screen then it is definitely a design fault. How can a product not be able to even withstand the usuage of a function that its suppose to provide within such a short time. I do not swing or rock my video camera, how can a cable come loose to cause the screen to become blank with normal usuage just slightly over a year, this is not a product you would be using day in day out.
I sent my HD Cam in for service, they were very quick to tell me that my warranty is not registered and then also tell me its over the warranty period and they charged me S$116.60 service charge and for the cable replacement as well.
This incident totally aggravated me. I have bought LG, Fujitsu computers and have sent them in for servicing as well, never have I ever encountered problems like this, and if the problems is of a manufacturing nature or fault, the consumers don't get penalised, I have changed the hardisk for my LG three times due to manufacturer fault without having to pay a single cent.
I have also sent my Nikon for servicing, one 995 and the P1000, both warranty have expired, the P1000 was check through and serviced without charges and for the 995, they charged me for the parts that I needed to purchase without charging me any servicing charge.
Sony Singapore Service Centre definitely scores in the area of big heck care servicing attitude.
Now I know this is how Sony works, therefore, I will strictly not support Sony products any further. Luckily it has never been my favorite product brand. Boy, am I glad.
