so far, i've spent most of my days in HK wandering around the city. it's one of my favorite things to do when traveling: head out in one general direction and pick a path at random. i love ending up off the beaten path and seeing the people and places. the streets, alleys and walkways that intersect the city are endless. the only downside is that my feet are killing me.
my first day, i checked out the Museum of Art. unfortunately, i just missed a contemporary exhibit that ended a few days before i arrived. the rest of the collection there was just so-so. not too inspiring and somewhat limited. i did pick up a magazine that the names and addresses of some local art galleries and decided to check those out the next day.
some of those turned out to be amazing. my favorites: the Shoeni Art Gallery and Connoissuer Contemporary. the collections were diverse and incredibly inspirational. so many of the chinese artists blew me away. really powerful stuff. i jotted down a dozen or more names in my notebook and hope to find more of their work online.
last night's concert? Pharrell bringing the Olsen twins on stage? serious WTF-LOLage and ear-ringings. N.E.R.D. put on a good show but that sound needed to be dialed in better. Kanye sounded good and gave a 100% on stage, but most of his songs were kinda meh. teriyaki boys weren't bad. thanks to AnD for hooking up the VIP!
the afterparty? way packed. free drinks. unexpected running ins with zwooman and subsequent bullshittings and drunken musings on the state of Asian American film with Jason T. i almost fell down and can't remember the names of anyone i met last night. another big thanks to AnD for the festivities!
and now...the weekend.
