I THOUGHT ONE DAY THAT THE CITY COULD BE SEEN AS A ZOO FOR HUMANS AND IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO TAKE A WILD ANIMAL AS THE OBSERVER – THAT IS HOW THE IDEA STARTED. I WAS LOOKING FOR A SPECIES THAT WOULD BE UNADAPTED TO LIVING IN THIS ZOO BUT ALSO AN ANIMAL THAT PEOPLE CAN NOT LOOK DOWN AT.
I DECIDED UPON THE GIRAFFE. THE LONG NECK OF THE GIRAFFE HIGHLIGHTS THE VIEWING PROCESS; THEY HAVE A GENTLE AND CURIOUS WAY OF WATCHING. THE GIRAFFE HAS ALSO SOME FORMAL/METAPHORICAL SIMILARITIES WITH THE CITY REMINDING ME OF SKYSCRAPERS, EXOTIC TOP MODELS AND A DESIRE OF GETTING HIGHER.
THE STORY CONTINUES AS AN EXPLORATION OF PATTERNS, LINE AND COLORSURFACE. THE GRAPHICAL AND GEOMETRICAL LANGUAGE OPPOSES TO THE MOVEMENT OF THE BRUSH AND ABSTRACT EXPRESIONISM. IT’S A STORY RELATING WILD NATURE WITH THE WILD CITY ORGANISM.
