I've always appreciated Lane Crawford (LC) because it's a store that pushes the envelope on creativity. I pass by Pacific Place a lot and each time I go by the LC store there and look in the windows, I'm treated to an art gallery-like experience.
You gotta be creative these days. The Japanese department stores that once dominated Hong Kong's Causeway Bay district obviously didn't get the memo cause they all died an untimely death back in the 90s.
Well LC is at it again. This time, the fashion-forward retailer teams up with US fashion retailer Opening Ceremony (OC) on a one-month long collaboration that spans two cities. For four weeks, OC will curate LC's ifc mall store and Beijing store with visual merchandising spaces, inspired by abstract Americana. Themes that visitors will get to see include a NYC street, Broadway, Hollywood, and a French flea market. The special collab begins in Hong Kong on April 14 and Beijing April 16.
This creative partnership is, in a way, coming full circle for OC founders Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, classmates from UC Berkeley (hey, isn't there a UC Berkeley contingent in the AnD house as well?). It was a visit to Hong Kong that inspired them to open their first store in NYC, followed by an eight-story behemoth shop in Tokyo and an e-commerce website, among other things.
The occasion also marks a series of interesting three-way collaborations, which include avant-garde brands like Chloë Sevigny, Rodarte, agnés b, and Alexander Wang, among others. Will definitely go check out this display over the next few weeks. If you're interested in getting tix to the opening party on April 14 in Hong Kong, clickhereas AnD is once again taking care of its own.
