Earlier this week I was asked to photograph acclaimed artist, Simon Birch, so we both looked at our schedules and booked wednesday to do the shoot.
I've personally never met Mr. Birch before but I've read about him and knew a bit about his story.
Suffice to say, this was a pretty exciting opportunity so I was really looking forward to what we could do.
My boy Simon Yin was there to lend a hand, so we met up with his assistant Valerie at like 10:30am and headed over to Simon Birch's studio out in Aberdeen.
The concept was for two looks: one of him as an artist, and the other of him being more cleaned up and stylish.
The area and building where his studio was located had plenty of great industrial looking locations so we arrived early and scouted the area for some key spots.
One of the ideas was to bring out one of his HUGE paintings, which turned out to be an interesting task, as its size made it barely fit through the doorway and the elevator.
The painting took him about a week to paint and was of a famous Beijing photographer.
Once outside, we made our way through an obstacle course of moving trucks, forklifts and rapid guard dogs.
We even got a special shout out:
Overall, it was a very fun experience and I'm glad to finally be able meet the man in person.
Here's a little preview, but I'll have the rest of the pictures up soon once I find time to edit them!
PEACE!
