Been digging into my research on Kashmir all weekend. It’s been such a wonderful time reading and researching this incredible place on earth. I have been warned by so many to be ‘careful’ and that it’s not a place for a woman to go.
As I heed all the precautionary advice from my peers, I can’t help but feel excited about this new travel series I’m hosting. The Silk Road certainly set me up to explore the road less travelled, endure the crazy altitudes, and feel the freezing cold temperatures. Kashmir feels close yet so mysterious.
As Irish poet Thomas Moore once wrote in 1817: “Who has not heard of the Vale of Cashmere with its roses the brightest that earth ever gave.” ?
So seductive was this landlocked valley that, like a beautiful woman surrounded by jealous lovers, Kashmir attracted a succession of invaders, each eager to possess her. - The New Yorker
