So the annual film festival 'CPH PIX' just had its run here in Copenhagen.
I'm a big fan of this event as it's one of the few times of the year that you get to see pure independent cinema on the silver screen here in Denmark!
The event is also good at inviting many of the foreign and local filmmakers to Copenhagen to introduce their work and/or conduct seminars.
This event saw amongst others French director Romain Gavras with his film 'Our Day Will Come', the amazing 'Hobo With A Shotgun' and Asian-American filmmaker Kitao Sakurai (Yes.. Found it very interesting to meet a fellow "Sakurai" in Cph!) with his film 'Aardvark'.
The CPH PIX event is also one of the rare chances for me to catch up on Asian cinema in general, as they don't usually get theatrical releases here in Denmark.. This year I saw two amazing films!
First Miike Takeshi's '13 Assasins'.. Haven't seen such wonderful chambara-action in years and great performances from the whole cast! Look very much forward to see what he does with his remake of 'Hara-Kiri'.
The other great movie that I'm so happy I got a chance to see in a theater was 'The Man From Nowhere'! This South-Korean action drama starring Won Bin was absolutely amazing and was definitely my favorite at this years festival!
I heard it got a limited theatrical release in North America which it so deserves, and I hope it will be one of those films that get people to look up more Asian cinema!
The CPH PIX's two weeks event concluded with a great awards ceremony.. The main award the "New Talent Grand Pix" went to American filmmaker Alistair Banks Griffin for his work 'Two gates Of Sleep'.
Here at The CPH PIX award ceremony with good friend, director-auteur Alexandre Archimbaud.
I'm working with Alexandre on an upcoming gangster feature film.. Hopefully we can see that in a future CPH PIX event!
Thanks for now and see you next year 'CPH PIX'!!
