Well I woke my self up at 4am to catch the last and hottest Olympic event, Men's Ice Hockey Gold Medal match up between Canada and USA. Canada was under lots of pressure this Olympics, being that it was hosted by Vancouver, to win the gold. Canada faired well in the preliminary rounds with only one loss to the USA. It was a moment of uneasiness for Canadian Hockey fans as our national heritage and pride was on the line. Canada battled through the quarter and semi final to be matched against the US. So at 4:20am the pucked dropped and Osric and I were wide awake. Canada drove hard in the first period to score two goals. However the US team played hard to come back with a goal in the second period. It all came down the final 3 minutes of the third period as the US decided to make it interesting and score to tie the game. So much for going back to bed right away. . Another intermission, another period but this time sudden death. Canada came out hard and strong and Canada's number one superstar answered the call scoring the game winner and the gold medal for team Canada. I'm kind of sad that I'm not back home in Vancouver to partake in the celebration but atleast I caught all the action and live. There's not too many things I'd get up this early for. Canada's Toews striking first blood during the match up
USA not counting themselves down and out as they score with just a few minutes left forcing overtime. Sidney Crosby(or as the CCTV broadcast says "Siduni Giziby" scores the overtime winner to give Canada the win. Team Canada fleeing the bench to congratulate their overtime hero US Goalie comforted by team mate after loss. Despite losing he was named the tournament's MVP which was rightfully his as he was by far the best goal tender of the tournament. The pride of our national heritage preserved for another four years.
