Helping Get Donations for the Japan Disater

The other weekend I was at a local entertainment expo and pop culture convention in Chicago called C2E2.  The show took up a  full weekend and everything from tv shows like True Blood and The Walking Dead to comics and movies like the upcoming Thor and Green Lantern to having the  toy company Mattel there showcasing their various toy lines.    Japanese animation was also present with a US theatrical debut of the movie for Evangelion 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance.   Various companies and sellers were accepting donations for Japan.  The Japan Society had a huge presentaion as well as candy manufacturer Morinaga.

Morinaga had a booth plus they used mascots to drum up donations as well as people in Hi Chew costumes to direct people back to their set up.

I went and snagged a pic with their mascot ( I love Japanese mascots)  called the Hi-Chew King which looks like a crazy sentai- Pride fighting wrestler.   He was pretty cool though.

I then wore the Hi-Chew package costume and told people to please come back to their booth and donate to help Japan.   I think by Sunday night they had raised almost $7,000 US dollars for support!!!

Mango flavour!!!   My favourite!!!!!

All in all I had a blast at the show.   It ran from all weekend but I only went on Friday and Sunday.   I have a ton of pics from the show.  While I was there, I also wound up doing a short interview for the Chinese Xinhua News Agency at the Marvel Comics booth.   I can post the text version later.

ahhhh...I used to be addicted to Hi-Chew when I was living in Japan... i was all about the green apple. (they have it in HK too, but its made in China, not imported from Japan so its not exactly the same... I became a purist. :-P
