Wild Turkeys! | 野生火雞! |野生火鸡!

For some reason there are wild turkeys living in the community that my parents live in. You often hear them gobbling super loud but are usually hidden in the bushes or somewhere out of sight. The other day while I was cleaning out the garage I spotted some. Too bad there is no zoom on my camera but you get the picture. They are big and actually quite beautiful. Definitely something you don't see in Hong Kong. You'd be hard pressed to even find frozen turkey.

we had an occasional one in Maryland once in a while... but i think these semi-wild animals are mixing into suburban areas more and more... (deer, wild pigs, etc)

Wildlife in the suburbs, you have to love it. (I guess folks from Hong Kong think we're pulling their leg when we talk about wild animals in the burbs, huh?) Here in Chapel Hill, NC we don't have turkeys (at least not yet), but we do have herds of deer that, when they're not eating every ornamental plant and shrub in sight, are drinking out of the birdbath in broad daylight. People tell me that coyotes are moving in, though I've not heard one yet and both of the little dogs next door are still around, easy picking for a coyote. I do hear strange sounds at night sometimes and wonder if they might be foxes, which I see dead by the side of the road sometimes. We also have a lot of hawks. I saw one perched in a tree next to the side of the road only Saturday. When you live in an incorporated area, it is usually a wild life sanctuary--so no capturing or hunting of wild animals.
