I think what she is saying is actually beyond religion as she is asking us to go to the basis of religion and not to look at the tenants of religion. Which is why she refers to the habits of indigenous cultures that existed before we formalized religion. Going back to the basics means using a loving heart towards others and the earth. We shouldn't get caught up in fighting each other or hating each other because of religious differences and most importantly we shouldn't allow fear to control our lives. If you think about it, we've been trained to operate on fear, most of the reasons why we hold ourselves back form doing certain things in life is because we are afraid of rejection, consequences, being looked at as different, etc. But if you look at many people who've achieved greatness in this world, (and I've had the unique opportunity to have met many) fear is not really in their vocabulary. They all seem to be bold and fearless. Yes, there is no proof that the earth's poles are shifting and aliens are coming BUT it is true that human beings are the only species that create garbage and that we are really truly damaging this planet by the way we live now. Sad thing is most people are too caught up with getting the newest i-thingy to care.

making garbage - it depends on what your definition of 'garbage' is... lots of animals have negative impacts on the environment (beavers damming up rivers, swarms of locusts destroying crops, herds of grazing animals causing desertification). Yes humans are the only ones who make plastic bags, but we also the only animal that makes airplanes and solar power cells. But in my mind you can't complain about garbage's very existence and still take your plane ride to Switzerland. :-P

Etchy- I know you are being cheeky here because you are an engineer and engineers believe they make things better for humanity. (My dad designed nuclear power plants for 40 years) A beaver making a damn is not creating waste and the type of impact on the environment it has is on a micro scale and does not effect the earth as a whole as something like a nuclear reactor meltdown or BP's irresponsible handling of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Likewise, nor do herds of animals causing desertification and locusts devouring crops. You can't dispute that humans create many different kinds of waste that can damage the earth in very bad ways. Conversely, we also create things that also benefit our society tremendously. The point of this blog, professor Etchy, is not to make an argument about humans vs animals or how man made things make the world better or not. The point is we all need to be responsible individuals by trusting our hearts, loving each other and our planet more instead of being passive or cynical about the problems in the world.

Yes Yes Yes... Kiesha is a amazing woman! I've been watching her for a while now, I really think that what we should do now. It's so simple... Just LOVE everything! at least we can do our best!!!!!!!! Love~
