Take off...

Leaving NYC tomorrow for Shanghai.  It kinda feels weird that I haven't been there since December.  It was starting to feel like home and then I was away for 6 months.  I'm anxious to see what it's like now.  6 months isn't a long time, but in Shanghai/China, it's eons.  The Expo is obviously on and so all those cool new buildings are up and open and I hear the scaffolding I left behind is finally gone.  New subways open, surely new restaurants and other fun offerings as well...this ought to be good.

As for Frexh...it&...Read more

FREXH

I'm gearing up to return to Shanghai in about a month.  The plan is to stay there the whole summer.  While film endeavors are here, there, everywhere, and nowhere all at once (people in the business know what I'm talking about), I have been busying myself as of late in planning for something new, something...FREXH.  Yes, that's Frexh as in Fre...Read more

SFIAAFF

Been a minute...

Here in SF ready to go for the annual SF Int'l AA Film Fest.  They had a really nice opening night gala last night that i was just happy to be able to attend since I sprained my ankle the night before in New York.  As soon as it happened, I thought, "Uh, crud.  I won't be able to go tomorrow night."  Throw in the whole getting on an airplane thing and flying cross country...just lucky to have made it and felt fortunate it started to heal rather quickly...

I'm excited to be here this year since th...Read more

screenwriters?

Since this worked so well last time (I put out a call for mainland musicians and I got GREAT suggestions), I'm gonna try it again.  I'd be amazed if this one works, but...

I'm looking for a screenwriter who can write in Chinese, but has a grasp of English as well.  Preferably a Chinese citizen (mainland) who can think and write in a contemporary Mandarin mindset.  But fused into this script/story would be a Western sensibility.  Genre: dramatic/suspense.  Pay would be involved.

If anyone knows anyone who fits this b...Read more

mainland music band?

Hi all.  Happy Tiger Year!

Does anyone out there know of any musical acts based in mainland China?  Preferably Chinese citizens who sing in Chinese (but absolutely welcomed to sing in English or a blend of both)?  Fairly commercial, catchy, mainstream pop in nature.  Also, emerging.  Not a super established act.

I'd be grateful if you could send me any examples, website, suggestions of any should you know of any.  It's for a performance in Shanghai in August.

Thanks!  Many blessings and much success to eve...Read more

End of a Decade

It's hard to believe that we're upon a new decade already.  It was only yesterday that the 90's were turning into the 00's!  While a lot of things happened this decade that both made and broke me a person, I'm focused on what happened in this year 2009 - one that I consider great and one that I hope will springboard me into a better perch in life.  Already I'm feelin' it...

It was a wild year.  I hardly was ever in once place for very long.  If you told me two years ago that this would be my life, while I w...Read more

in asia again

Settled into Taipei this week where I feel the most comfortable of anywhere in Asia.  This is truly my home away from home and if one day I manage to base myself out of here, I will not be totally disappointed with that move.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, Taipei's just ridiculous.  In a good way.

I've been in and around the Taiwan Golden Horse Film Festival this past week.  It was interesting seeing Taiwan audience's reaction/take on PEOPLE.  It goes to Hong Kong next week for a run there and will be cu...Read more

reel stuff

Gonna post some reel stuff from over the years.  This isn't really a reel, but I suppose I should find a way to cut some of it up so it is.  If you've never seen Shanghai Rush, the season finale below sums it all up pretty well!

Thank you kind people who wished me a happy birthday last week!  Another year older, another year wiser - at least I hope...

I can't wait to hit Asia again in a couple of weeks.  I've been back in the USofA since early September and to be quite honest, it almost feels like I don't belong here anymore.  It's weird, but I feel as if my time here is coming to an end and I really need to move my butt over to Asia, if not permanently, then on a prolonged basis.  I've been in NYC for nearly a decade now and after spending most of...Read more
