Filming beneath a legendary logo
For the finale of 'Beach Spike', we moved into a stage at the new Shaw Bros studios at Tseung Kwan O. Shaws is a legendary name in Asian action cinema. I've visited their old Clearwater Bay studios many times over the years, and released many of their classic titles in the west. This is my first first time actually shooting on their lot, and we can even boast the triumphant return to Shaws of Five Deadly Venoms star Lo Mang!
Shaw Bros films have featured giant apes, killer snakes and all manner of kung fu fighting. I'll bet they've never seen anything like our high jumping volleyball queens. We all had fun shooting the film's final tournament scenes. The studio actually has a nice on site restaurant, but I think Phoenix and I were the only ones to venture into it.
It was a buzz to see the famed logo everywhere from the gate to the rest room trash cans!
On one of our last days in the studio, we shot a scene in which our two bitchy bad girls, Phoenix Valen and Jessica C, fire volleyballs at a couple of muscular black guys. I cast these roles with my friends Franck Matour (from France) and Tee Covington (from the US). I want to thank both men for suffering serious ball damage while shooting the scene.
We're now on the last leg of the shoot, and its looking amazing!
