Tales from the closing days of Beach Spike!...
By popular request, and because its Halloween, here's the tale of the close encounter that Peter Wong and I had with an unquiet spirit. I'm glad Peter was there, because no-one would believe me! (Everyone knows I have too much imagination and have been known to tell some tall tales...).
We'd finished on the last night's shoot of the film and went to the area underneath the Peak Mall to see if we could find a cab. (I just live down hill from there, so figured it would be quicker than taking a production vehicle
All we could find there was one empty cab. We figured the driver might have been on a washroom break, so looked around for him. A figure in a pink shirt walked across the area about 15 feet in front of us, and disappeared behind a stone pillar.
Thinking he was the taxi driver, Pete went ahead to look for him. When he rounded the pillar, the man had disappeared. He turned to me. "Bey, did you see that guy?" I told him I had, and we wondered how he had vanished like this. At that moment, all the lights went off and we ran for it...
So that's our story and we're sticking to it!
A few days later, the Beach Spike! cast and crew convened at a Sai Kung restaurant to celebrate the wrap of a hard, fun and successful shoot.
It was great to be able to party with our fantastic on camera and behind the camera talent, and we had games (I didn't win a damn thing, as usual!), speeches (mine was the funniest...not!)
We really got lucky on this film: everyone we ended up casting turned out to be perfect for their role. Here''s hoping we can all reunite for Beach Spike Parte Deux!
Finally, and above all, thanks to our awesome director, Tony Tang, who faced sand, sun and storms to Spike!
