I don't think I've been hit in the face so many times in a week, its probably because I'm an a-hole or maybe I like watching people get hit in the face. but when push comes to shove, I think I'll just step aside.
This weekend was certainly an interesting one: Saturday 9am-7pm - Blow an award for a photo shoot; Saturday 10pm-3am get slapped around by a girl I don't know and strangely, like it; Sunday 3pm-8pm - watch grown men kick the crap out of each other in a professional K-1 Kick boxing match, and totally watch someone get pwned.
So, blow stuff up you say. Cool. I felt like a kid again lighting up first fire cracker. As much as it was like this, it was equally frustrating. The project was for a company I and Jimmy Ming Shum ( a guy who's a photographer and went to the same art school as I did in San Francisco) have worked with. The first references were of an orange getting destroyed and we planned to mimic the effect. And of course it never really turns out the way you want it. we had only 7 awards to destroy, 3 actual ones with paint and gold, and 4 dummies that were unpainted. To make a long story short I we made only 3 good shots and the last one, the one with the gold paint was the only good one they could plausibly use. It will be a challenge for the re-toucher, I wish him the best of luck.
Getting slapped around by a girl. Now I totally come off as a pansy but come on, I hardily knew her and she still gave me crap. With all respects, I do deserve it, but she pissed off enough that the playful banter wasn't banter no more, it was just plan disrespect. She stole me glasses too, and no does that. Play pool, let cooler jets prevail.
Watch grown men kick each others ass, literally. This was impressive. I've never actually watched a live fight so this was a cool experience. I'm talking about the Fields K-1 GP Asia Tour Fight that was shown at Asia World Expo this weekend. Total violence, ciaos and controversy. But then again getting kicked in the face is hardily an every day activity. I really do feel bad emotionally and psychologically for the guy that had his nads kicked not one not two but four times, yes, four times in the royals. According to the insiders, after the first 3 his sack swelled to the size of an orange. Ouch. Boon, please don't kick me in the jimmy. Ever. In retrospect, the 'kicked in the balls' guy beat the life out of the 'I kicked you in the nuts guy' with an impressive combo of right haymaker then left haymaker. 'I kicked you in the nuts guy' crumpled to the mat and eyes rolled up. Pwned.
Other fights yielded almost equal pwn-age. Round house to the face, pwned. Huge Korean dude vs wider afro-american but big, pwned with a punch combo and was knocked conscientiously whilst still standing. Major pwn-age. When he woke, he was still standing, asked his corner man what happened and the corner man simply replied, in probably fewer words understood but the knocked-out, 'You got knocked out'. From my point of view I think the knocked-out replied, 'What? No way, come on!' But it was easy to see that he had no chance, the Korean giant had at least a foot and a half height advantage over the afro-american man and even a foot of reach too.
The final match was also good, the championship match for the Hong Kong trophy. The chinese guy had no chance, was knockdown twice by the Japanese veteran, once via punch combo, by the time the mainlander rose, he was in an ill stance, stumbling like a man whos had far too many drinks. The second knockdown, which turned out to be the knockout was equally entertaining, another punch combo.
I normally don't condone violence but watching the professionals do it was awe inspiring. After I stepped up to Tobin, Pat and Raffi asking them to, 'Hit me as hard as you can.' Unlike Fight Club they simply gave me a wedgy. I was berated like a youngster in high school by the upperclassmen. Pwned. But after we ate meat, so I felt like a man again, some what. And Conroy drank me under the table. Pwned x2. And Dan has a better camera than I do. Pwned x3.
So I got pwned multiple times this weekend much to my demise. Nonetheless it something to tell the readers like yourself. And to finish this report, here a little video from the all knowing video source YouTube. Something of the K-1's, the Pride fights and of UFC-dom.
