October is a good month

on the 9th--NBA 2k10 hits on the 9th

????--I finally got to write about basketball for a major publication. Okay so it's not real ball but streetball. Still, being able to write the words crossover and Iverson for a publication gave me a small taste of what I wanna do ultimately--NBA columnist.

on the 22nd--1kStyles first exhibition and the launch of Brouhaha

on the 27th--Bill Simmons' 700 page opus on the NBA hits. I will read this in entirety in less than three sittings. Probably within a 30 hour period.

also on the 27th--NBA season kicks off. This year the opening night games don't interest me that much outside of Cleveland Boston (the two best teams in the East)

butttt on the 28th, there's a game that intrigues me. It involves two mediocre teams from two small market cities that probably won't make they playoffs.... Detroit vs Memphis.

Normally I wouldn't give a crap about Detroit vs Memphis.

But this game took on significance when Iverson signed with Memphis and announced it's personal. Today he said his one season in Detroit was the worst of his career. He said Detroit lied to him. Disrespected him.

Iverson has overcome racism that nearly put him in prison. He scared the hell out of middle American white folks in the 90s when he showed up on prime time network television with cornrows and tats. He gave the juggernaut 2001 Lakers their only defeat in the playoffs in one of the true Rocky-like David-vs-Goliath performances. At 5'11 and 160 pounds soaking wet, he's been battered and bruise and got up each time.

Despite all that, he claims Detroit benching him and putting him on the inactive list hurts the most. He vows vengeance.

Normally when two players/teams/sides feuds, the NBA milks the anticipation and schedule the games late in the season. This time we won't have to wait. On the second day of the NBA season, ALLEN IVERSON WILL PLAY THE DETROIT PISTONS.

AI, through the years I've supported you but I've come to accept you will never win a ring. And I would never want you near my favorite team cause of your chucker tendencies. But still, your heart is amazing and you're one of the greatest warriors in all of sports.

I hope you drop 50 on the Motown and I hope you do it with that hip hop swagger, that me-against-the-world attitude, that crossover.
