oct 27th

October 27th.

The day the NBA season starts and the day Bill Simmons book hits.

I'm still a bit stunned that Blake Griffin is out with a broken kneecap, the same injury that sapped Antonio McDyess of all athleticism and turned him from star to solid contributor. All because Simmons wrote a half-joking article about the Clippers being cursed and that if Blake doesn't flee something bad was going to happen. The fact that this happened hours prior to the release of Simmons' book pushes the eerieness to another notch. If I was a cynical Brit I'd be saying this was a conspiracy and Blake faked his injury after Simmons paid him cash or something.

I always get giddy over the NBA but this season is going to be a "Scarlett Johansson"--it's gonna be top heavy. The best five teams from last season added another star player. Spurs, Lakers, Cavs, Celtics and Magic could all win 60 games. Hell, the Lakers could win 65-68. It's insane.

We got three of the top ten players, of all time (think about how significant this is. three of the best basketball players in the history of basketball. Not just in the US, not just in the past decade. But three of the ten best players to ever play basketball anywhere on earth are playing right now)--Kobe, Duncan and Shaq.

Lebron and Wade are almost locks join them on that pantheon level of greatness sooner or later, and then we got young studs who are ready to blow up and take the jump to superstar level too--Kevin Durant (who will average 30 and 7 this year), and Danny BATMAN Granger.

How high is the talent level right now? Carmelo Anthony may just be one of the greatest scorer in history of the league. You know last week he dropped 45 points in 24 minutes? Last season he scored 33 points in a quarter. Dude is capable of putting the ball in the basket at such a high volume , yet no knowledgeable basketball fan would rank him in the top 6 or 7 players. Hell, I wouldn't even put him in the top ten.

It's a good time to be a fan of the league right now. Talent levels at an all time high, we're going into a Scarlett Johansson season and this summer will be one of the most exciting free agent summers in history, with every sports fan wondering

IS LEBRON GOING TO NYC?
