Chris Nolan is currently working on Inception right now. Most people want Nolan to just hurry up and get this done and over with and get it out of the way so he can go make what we all want to see--BATMAN 3
So yeah, I never cared much for Inception...until now when I checked out the cast list. Leo, Marion Cortillard, Alfred Pennyworth (Caine), Sniper (Berenger) and the two indie kings and queens of this decade, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon Levitt.
And then I got to think about Nolan's work. Okay, so The Dark Knight is one of the top three best films of this decade and the defining film of this decade (you can argue from a filmmaking standpoint it isn't. but when you're adding up every factor--box office, critical acclaim, fanfare, buzz, positive word of mouth, impact on culture, nothing tops TDK this decade), but Nolan has made some damn good films. Memento obviously but I think The Prestige was a great film that kinda went under the radar. That's like, Scarlett Johansson's only good film outside of Vicki Cristina and Lost in Translation.
So yeahhh we may all be awaiting Batman 3 (and to be honest I'm already preparing for a letdown. There is NO WAY Batman 3 can top TDK. TDK, with that "oh my god Batman sacrificed himself" ending, cannot be topped by a comic book film again. Iron Man is like, the perfect summer movie, and is exactly what every comic book movie should be....at least that's what we all thought in May of 2008. By July of 2008 TDK shattered and transcended what comic books movie could be and almost defined a new genre of its own.
After TDK, we started getting picky with our movies--Wolverine was trashed. If Wolvie came out in the 90s when we were getting Judge Dredd, Barb Wire, and Tank Girl, we'd be crying in joy. TDK set the bar that high
(and to the, six of you who said TDK wasn't that good, or that Batman Begins is equal to TDK, or that Watchmen was better than TDK.
NO)
