that girl in the back selling pocari ...so cute
Anyway, I'm freezing my ass off here in Habittu again and I'm stuck on this 4000 word feature. I'm on word 22.
So I took a break and am following Summer Sonic on Twitter. Obviously, seeing a rock show in Japan is something I've wante to do since I've been in HK but things just never worked out.
Well, at least I can tell myself that the Summer Sonics and Fuji Rock lineups were relatively weak this year as a consolation. I'm checking out the 06 Fuji Rock lineup (Chili Peppers, Strokes, Jack White, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Sonic Youth, The Black Keys (amazing band. yeah I just put a parenthesis within a parenthesis), and Lou fucking Reed) and it blows my mind. I see the 97 Fuji Rock lineup ( Green Day, Beck, Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters) and my jaw dropped (although in 97 GD, RHCP, Foo haven't cemented their status like they have now).
Still, I think the greatest lineup goes to 2003 Summer Sonic. Check this out...
Radiohead, The Strokes, Kings of Leon (known as poor man's Strokes then but I loved them), Interpol, Blur, Blink 182, and other one hit wonders like Hot Hot Heat and The Living End.
Anyway, yeah. I've decided that next year, no matter what, I'm going to either Fuji or SS. No more excuses, I don't care if I'm going alone--I'm gonna do it. Best part is I'm 96% sure either The Strokes or Green Day will be playing in Japan next summer.
If you ain't heard of the black keys. check this out. I saw them in 03 when they opened for The White Stripes. It was Black Keys/Soledad Brothers/White Stripes in Irvine. Then I saw School of Rock and ate a burrito from the taco truck the next day. That was the greatest 24 hours of rock of my life.
