D'Yer Mak'er

--Check out this (unintentionally) hilarious piece on hand models in NY Mag. Well it's unintention comedy by the hand models, I'm sure the NY Mag writer had a chuckle or two when they wrote it. Freaking hand model man, I always think of David Duchovny in Zoolander everytime. Check out what this hand model said about conveying emotion through her hands...

"I was doing a shoot where I had to pick up a cheeseburger and bring it to camera, but they wanted it to be the most delectable cheeseburger," Covington said. "So I said 'mmmm,' and really conveyed the emotion entirely to get it reflected in my hands."

Amazing. I have no words. I dunno, call me junk food obsessed American, but when I'm seeing an ad for cheeseburgers, I don't really give a crap about the hand holding it, but the cheese and the meat.

--Check out what the Financial Times wrote about Obama:

President Barack Obama reminds me of Felix the Cat. One of the best-loved cartoon characters of the 1920s, Felix was not only black. He was also very, very lucky. And that pretty much sums up the 44th president of the US as he takes a well-earned summer break after just over six months in the world’s biggest and toughest job.

I know the Financial Times is a British newspaper and all, but wow. "Not only was he black".

I can understand why a hand model would have to emote. I was a flamenco dancer for many years and our hands were extremely important expressive instruments. Flamenco is all about conveying emotion using every body part. And watch what people hands do while they dance tango--foreplay on the dance floor! This article isn't as dumb as it sounds. Actually, it is probably a pretty difficult to do with only your hands and using them in a mundane way and still getting across the idea of "you really want to buy this product". If you're selling a $50,000 ring or watch, you have to communicate class, breeding, whatever a person who could afford to buy such an item would value and think sets them apart from the hoi-pa-loi (meaning you and I). Yeah, I can really see it.
