I was on my way to lunch today and as I was walking by the Osage Gallery on Caine Road, a near naked body of Chow Yun Fat caught my eye.
In Wilson Shieh's latest exhibition Chow Yun Fat's Dressing Room, he paints CYF and several of his iconic film characters, including Hui Man Keung (from The Bund), Mark Gor (from A Better Tomorrow), and Ah Long (From Johnnie To's All About Ah Long. Johnnie To is the greatest director in HK history, I'm serious.) I wonder why the legendary God of Gamblers Go Jun wasn't included...
Anyway, in a press release by Osage, the exhibition is supposed to reflect on how culture through appearance and adornment transforms in various media.
That's too complicated for me. I think this exhibition reflects on
CHOW YUN FAT'S BADASSED-NESSIt breaks my heart--almost literally--that all of CYF's movies are trash now. Dragonball? Bulletproof Monk?
His only respectable Hollywood film is The Corruptor. When your best movie stars Marky Mark, you know you got had, man.Actually, all of us HK cinema buffs who grew up on CYF being bad ass are being had right now. Cause when I saw Dragonball, I kept thinking of Wayne's World's tagline.
"YOU'LL LAUGH. YOU'LL CRY. YOU'LL HURL."But on a serious note, this exhibition is great. Please check it out. And despite the decline in quality of CYF's films... he'll always be Mark Gor and God of Gamblers in all HK cinema fan's eyes.
