Bootleggin'

Maybe it's because I've started to meet more and more people from the movie scene--thus seeing how hard they work--lately...but piracy is really starting to annoy me.

Coworkers lately have just been in love with going to china and buying back packs and packs of bootleg movies.

Now I don't wanna be one of them hypocrites on a high horse, and I'll admit I download music and own bootleg movies as well. But as a rule of thumb, I always buy the stuff I like because it's worthy of support. I downloaded the White Stripes when it was leaked, but then I also went out and paid for the album when Icky Thump dropped. I owned two bootleg copies of TDK but paid 380 HKD for the blu-ray (which is now useless since I sold my PS3 thanks to that bastard xman).

I'm not trying to preach from a moral standpoint or whatever. It’s just I believe if you say you love something—your ass should support it.

Of course, with the dirt cheap price and/or convenience of bootlegging, it’s something you just can’t escape. If you bootleg a movie that hasn't been released yet, fine. But come on, draw a line somewhere. I see people just buying anything and everything. This dude who sit next to me at the office…comes back with packs and packs of movies. And I’m like “come on man”.

Musicians can still make money touring. But movies can’t survive if you don’t go pay to watch or buy the DVDs. I was looking at the Hong Kong Box Office last week and the numbers are just depressing.

Let's not even get into the right or wrong…and just talk passion for hobbies. if you really love films, you’d wanna watch it on the big screen. I wouldn’t want my first viewing of TDK on a fucking 30 inch TV, right?

I never understood that. I hear all the time "Oh my god, I love this band so much... do you have free tickets? If not I won't go because I don't want to pay tickets."

You know what I think when I hear that?

"Bitch, if you love the band so much, you'd want to see them enough to pay for tickets."

If Radiohead ever comes to HK, I ain't gonna be counting on no free tickets. I'd pay for it.

If you a fan, support that shit.
