I don't know if its just because I am paying attention....but seems like these Olympics are really exciting.........the badminton finals with China's Lin Dan was cool and really good.......they tied at least 4 times before he finally won..........it was neat that a wealthy Malaysian put up a million dollars if anyone could beat Lin Dan! And in Beach Volleyball....while most guys are checking out the skimpy bikinis......the American Team is really good. Ping pong...was also awesome.......and I finally got to see a little Equestrian.........the horse and rider doing obstacle course, the horse should get a medal too.........which I am sure NBC was not really interested in showing.........sort of like rhythmic Gymnastics.......also the fastest man in the world competition won by Usain Bolt........he is definitely fast...he didn't even look like he was going all out!! The ability to persevere is so important.....notice that when everyone poooped out Russia starts to win medals in Gymnastics.........if you practice just for the short term goal you might not survive to the end........which was why the Beijing Team was always the tops....you don't do conditioning until you are dead tired...it forces you to push thru adversity..........well still a few more days to go.....
While I am not happy Wushu is not in the Olympics.........I look at the other sports, and I think no way is Wushu ready to be an Olympic Sport there is so much to do before we can even reach a level comparable to say Gymnastics..........we have no infrastructure...........no national recruitment of talent.......or funding for athletes...................only small schools, and a dysfunctional national organization............terrible leadership.......and China's solution?? We are walking the two roads......tradtional and contemporary......promote both to get into the Olympics........you might ask me why.......there are many more tradtional schools......including the Shaolin Schools which are all over the world.....than Contemporary Schools.......still they can't convince me to like competition Tai Chi...................it ain't Tai Chi.....nothing like bastardizing your own art............there's no acrobatics in Tai chi.
Ah well it always comes back to this..........promote the art and things will get better, promote yourself and feed your own greed and nothing will go right.....
Finally don't forget....Sept 21-23, Tat Wong and ICMAC present the Golden Gate International Chinese Martial Arts Championships, at the San Francisco Airport Hyatt Regency. See you there!!
