Vale John Hurt, we've lost one of our finest, most versatile dramatic artists, one who almost invariably chose excellent roles. If he was in a film, there was a really good chance it would be a quality, distinctive and often edgy piece that would teach us something about what it means to be a (hu)man, one who was sometimes an insider - but more often a fascinating, brilliant maverick.
