I think the supermarkets (given their enormous power) should simply ask any abusing cashiers to leave (without their groceries). My gorgeous girl a 18yo checkout operator - has been screamed at and abused by countless Woolworths shoppers becasue of the plastic bag situation that she has been coming home visibly upset by the treatment. Big companies have a social obligation to protect their staff, and to enforce mutual respect with their customers.
