Art is a global filmmaker, writer and lecturer who moonlights as an arm chair anthropologist and humorist.
Art Hooker is an Award Winning Global Filmmaker, writer and photographer. He is driven by the study of art, business and culture and how these disciplines work together to enhance society.
Hooker's 15 year journey into the arts began almost by accident when as a sophomore in high school he was asked at the last minute to fill in for a sick speech and debate team member in a humorous impromptu speaking competition. He went on to surprisingly take 3rd place honors in the tournament. That experience hooked Art into being a creative communicator for life.
Art became intrinsically inspired when during his senior year in highschool he realized that his great uncle John Lee Hooker was in fact a Blues Legend that was lauded all over the world. Although Art never met John Lee, the realization of his existence and his work inspired him to go on to star, write and direct his first award winning one man show "The King". The show was staged in Chicago, Memphis, Atlanta and Dallas. For several years Art, wrote, direct and produced independent theater and live events.
Art earned his entry into the independent film world by producing the Super 35mm feature Borland, written and directed by the Nigerian born filmmaker Quam Odunsi. The film was photographed by German cinematographer Rene Karp. Borland later became an official selection of the Dallas AFI film festival in 2007.
In 2008 Art made his film directorial debut as the director and co-writer of the comedy short Stalker’s Dating Guide. The film received 4 nominations, winning the awards for best comedy screenplay and best produced screenplay at the Action on Film Festival in Pasadena, CA.
Art recently produced "Platonic Bomb" a film directed by M. Legend Brown and written by Eric Schwartz. The film was nominated for best picture at the TBF festival.
The Lone Star International Film Festival selected Art's most recent project Waking Up for it's Panther City Screening series. The film written and directed by Art, stars Sean Brison and Brandi Price and is brilliantly photographed by cinematographer David Pinkston. The film will be released on line after being screened around the world summer ’09.
Art is currently in production on his first feature documentary about creativity and passion that spans the U.S, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Hooker plans to direct his next feature film in late early 2009, with details to be announced.
