MJ R.I.P

I’m sure everyone is on MJ overload but, I just have to write one more blog to say that there will be no kid with as much natural talent born on this earth as Michael during the Jackson 5 days.

During my 25 years of dancing, I don’t think I’ve ever met one dancer who wasn’t inspired, amazed, or impressed by his natural dance abilities. Sure he was inspired by Gene Kelly’s moves with his white socks/ loafers and standing on the toe thing, James Brown’s shuffle and the Night Train Dance which was definitely the roots of the Moonwalk along with Marcel Marceau’s moves but, Michael perfected it all and took it to another level. I can still remember during my Creative Dance Class in grade school being upset for days because I couldn’t play Michael and wear that red iconic Thriller jacket or at least play Ola Ray instead, I worked my magic as goul center right. Still to this day, when I see red leather, I feel a tinge of sadness.

I was lucky enough to see him in concert. I have never seen someone so skinny dance with so much force and when he struck that last signature MJ pose silhouetted against the lights, I couldn’t deny his immeasurable talents. That’s the MJ I will remember.

My favorite is still during the Jackson 5 era…that boy could sing especially Smokey Robinson’s cover of “Who’s Loving who” when he was only 10 years old. You can’t teach a kid that kind of performance quality. Others may sing or dance the part but, MJ’s stage presence is unsurpassed.

MJ’s memorial service last night had us up till 4 am HK time…to see Stevie perform like that was worth it.
