First here is my take on auditions in the beginning of my aspiring actress phase:
Sometimes its not even about the talent but about the look you possess. I'm not saying good looking people but more of a person's features. If a girl with blond hair comes in and does a great job but a red head comes in but doesn't do as well, because the scene looks good with the red head. they may just pick her. Or, if there is a scene with another actor and the red head seems to have more chemistry with the other actor, they will pick her instead. So, there are a lot of factors. Never the less, I try to not make "ASIAN" the only thing I try out for. I try to make my talent come out more than my features because I don't EVER want to limit myself from anything. If I could, I would do an ASIAN version of CLUELESS! :-)
A couple of weeks ago I went to audition for a fashion TV host . The job entailed asking people about their outfits and their favorite designers at various trendy places. I thought it would be a grear "build up" project so I got dressed up really trendy for my audition and I even thought I did a good job. I joked around with the casting director and was really friendly to everybody at their office so I was a little sad when I didn't hear a call back. ( You usually get it by the next couple of days to a week later) I guess you have to get used to not getting called back when they pick 1 out of about 100 people. Sigh.. the life of an aspiring actress... its ruthless......
So anyways, yesterday I got a call from that same casting director to tell me that he referred me over to another casting director who was casting for a new show and he gave him the video that I had audition in and my headshot. So, Now I got a call back into another audition for another show by this previous casting director. Cool stuff :-) Guess it doesn't hurt to be friendly to the casting director when you walk in! You never know what may happen for a previous audition going forward!
So for this week, I got a few good news. I got another email saying I got the part for the lead role in a USC student film which will be great for my reel. I also have 8 auditions booked this week for various things. I've already done 2 so I've got 6 more to go! One step at a time and yes, I will be chatting with the casting director/ team when I walk in!
How do we know if we're suppose to be doing what we are doing? ...
