Tongue in Chic Interview (some time ago)

Upcoming/Q+A: Angie Ng

If ever the casting agent from Victoria's Secret wants to use an Asian model as one of their angels, I'd love to see our own Angie Ng wearing those OTT-and-to-die-for wings. Currently completing her Degree in Law in London and signed with modeling agency Bookings Models, Angie's prime location is her chance at making a mark in the international modeling scene.

So tell me, who is the real Angie Ng? This is going to sound boring, but here goes! I am a normal human being with a loving family and great friends. You got to know that i can't avoid from grooving when a banging beat hits the radio. Biggest misconception is that I am not a kitchen person, but the fact is I can cook! And I think black hair is gorgeous espacially on Asians. Like bread and butter; a perfect match. TiC: When did you start to model? I was discovered by a local designer Michael Ong in a shopping mall in Penang when I was 16. I was then introduced to Cilla Foong, owner of established modeling agency Cilla & Associates. However I only joined the agency when I was 18 and moved to Kuala Lumpur for my studies. I was trained and nurtured by Cilla herself and she took care of me as I emerged into the industry as a young, new and inexperienced model. Cilla has always been there to correct me on my mistakes and point me to the right direction in my modeling career. I cannot thank her enough for giving me numerous opportunities, teaching, nurturing and guiding me. TiC: What is your biggest achievement? I can't give you one exactly because for the past 2 years of modeling, I've been given the chance to work for big brands like DKNY and Marc Jacobs. In addition, I was also named as the face of Pavillion Kuala Lumpur last year and was part of their TV commercial. I then got the chance to grace the cover of FHM when I won the Girl Next Door Competition. Now after one month with my London agency, I'm ecstatic to be given a series of shows to do in Germany this January. TiC: I know you are beautiful, but what makes you really beautiful? As cheesy as it may sound, I do believe that beauty is only skin deep. I am not perfect and I don't think I'm a diva. I love my friends who never look at me as a model, but merely as the super tall Angie. I am also a very soft person and rarely get impatient or angry. Sadly, my softness is my downfall. TiC: Are the other models nice to you? I usually work with the more experienced and established models and they have always been helpful to me. Most of them are like a big sister or "kakak" to me. I have learned so much from them. For example, Tengku Azura, Priscilla Yee and many others have always willingly helped and guided me in modeling and I truly respect and love them for their generosity to me. TiC: Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen and Heidi Klum. Who's your favourite? Heidi Klum! I admire her attitude and love her look. When she was younger, Heidi never thought she'd be able to reach supermodel status but she never gave up and worked hard to achieve everything. I also think that she has the perfect body for a model. A model should not be a size 0. In addition, she has a happy family and a successful TV show now. She balances her life perfectly. What is there not to like about Heidi? TiC: Share with us the experience modeling in London. Casting in London is nothing like Malaysia. There are around 60 models, and it will be less if it's a request cast. We will go to a cast with our book and line up till it is our turn. It depends on what the job is for and thus for different jobs you are required to look or do different things. TiC: What is your dream as a model? My dream is to work with photographers like Mario Testino or Steven Meisel and to be involved in New York Fashion Week. Isn't that almost every model's dream? I am concentrating on my studies now but I'd want to try and work towards my dream when I finally complete my law degree this May. TiC: Tell us your future plans. I like to take every step as it comes and make the best out of situations because expectations, when underachieved, can be devastating. Nevertheless, I do hope and work for the best. TiC: What do you think of modeling in Malaysia? Modeling in Malaysia is very competitive. In my opinion, it is the survival of the fittest. All models have the face, height and body and I believe a good model would take a step further to work on their skills as a model - which include a proper diet and skincare regime, being on time, to having a good walk or pose. Practice makes perfect!
