Through this Festival we also aim to share with the Hong Kong public what Mexico is all about.

A Press Conference will be held at 4:30 p.m. on 3 rd May at the Agnes B. Cinema in the Hong Kong Arts Centre to meet the Festival’s Mexican producers and actors.

Additionally, the Festival is hosting a Pitch Event on the 3 rd of May at the Assaggio on the 6 th Floor in the Hong Kong Arts Centre in order to create an economic and artistic platform for our Mexican guests (producers and actors) and the local film industry, in order to develop new opportunities for the benefit of both the Mexican and the Hong Kong film industries (to participate please e-mail the Festival at :mexfilmfestival@gmail.comor Beatriz Tancock atbmtancock@mexcham.orgor call us at 9499 1215

This year’s Festival shows a wide variety of techniques and film schools, all bringing together some of the most characteristic features of Mexican life seen through movies.Two of the main feature films have been recognized in International Festivals around the world with awards and the other two films have just been released in Mexico during March and April 2011.  They all are a testimony of the high degree of professionalism and technical abilities in the industry while bringing humour, family values and thrillers to your mist:

 ‘ The Journey of the Comet’ The documentary featured in our Festival will take you on a magical trip around the landscape of Mexico while showing you a commitment to education beyond belief.

‘ Nora’s Will’ is the winner of 8 Festival awards including Best Film, Best Actor (Fernando Luján) and will open our Festival on the 2 nd of May, directed by Mariana Chenillo the first woman in Mexico to have won the Ariel prize for Best Screenplay in her debut as a Director;

 ‘Private Perez’an Adventure Comedy film by Lemon Films, directed by Beto Gómez, this being his fifth film as a Director.  The film was released in Mexico on the 18 th of March and by the 5 th of April more than 1 million Mexicans had watched the movie making Private Perez one of the most successful films in Mexico recently;

 ‘The Student’ .Nominated for the awards in 12 categories winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best music score and best song for cinema, directed by Roberto Girault, a graduate from the Vancouver Film School, this film was also his Opera Prima ;

‘ The Last Death’ Also by Lemon Films, this is a Sci-Fi thriller just released in Mexico this April . The film allows you to see the capabilities of the Mexican film industry and of course will keep you glued to the screen…  Directed by David Ruiz it is his Opera Prima and its release is so recent that there are no comments or reviews on the acceptance from the Mexican public.

We have included in the Festival 9 short films all of which have won awards and are entertaining, intriguing, and funny and some will give you food for thought. We should single out ‘The Gold Mine’ by Director Jacques Bonnavent, winner of an array of international awards for best short film, best director, and best actress.

Tickets are free of charge. For reservations please e-mailmexfilmfestival@gmail.comor Beatriz Tancock tel. 9499 1215atbmtancock@mexcham.organd Lorena Compeán tel. 9426 1368 atlcompean@mexcham.org
