Doing Good. Looking Good. Feeling Good.

Thanks everyone for the compliments that you have given me on my attire at this week's AFA.  I really do appreciate those direct and posted compliments.

Following on that I have been selected for a cover shoot of the inaugural edition of GQ (read that as Geriatric Quarterly)!  It's going to happen when they remember......

Actually the whole purpose of this blog is to share the experiences of Doing Good, Looking Good, and Feeling Good.

As independent, self employed or self funded artists, film makers, musicians and collateral crew and technicians most funds are allocated toward advancing our art.  Mac's, Final Cut, 7D's (for you new DP's), acting classes, choreography, action stunts and etc.  There isn't much funding left for wardrobe.

So what do you do when you need to step out on the town?

Well unless you are sponsored or even if you are, there comes a time when wardrobe augmentation at a high level is gonna set you back.

Threads like....

are gonna set you back at least in the 4 to 5 significant digit Honkey Dolla arena.

Cheer up!  There is a solution and it not only will make you Look Good and Feel Good, but you will be Doing Good.

When would you consider that by going out and buying threads that you would be helping the Tsunami Victims in Japan, Earthquake Victims in China, Feed Starving Families in Africa, and even doing God's work!

Doing all that by just buying something?

Yes, it's true.  It depends on where you shop.

Ok, the aforementioned purple velvet jacket is a Versace.  I bought it for $400.  I have also acquired a Hugo Boss black double breasted tuxedo for $350!  This is not to wear the designer label under your nose but to let you all know that Looking Good, Feeling Good, and Doing Good won't kill you financially.

The catch is that they are pre-celebrated, used/donated clothing or business closure inventory. At times there are new items....the Versace is one of them.

Ok, so where do you go?

Not far.  Both shops are located in Central.

Yep it's run by the Church.  The employees are volunteers.

Buy here and looking good is doing God's work.

Formal wear behind the front door, there are also racks of suits all over the place.  Tuxedo shirts go for about $30 dollars as do cumberbunds.

The second shop is called the Oxfam Shop and is located in Jardine's House in Central right next to Grappa's.

Oxfam International, stands for the Oxford Famine Relief charity and of course they accept donations and send them off to anywhere in the world where relief is needed.  Their shop sells almost everything, including musical instruments.

Buy here and you feed the world!

Great thing about Tuxedo's is that unless you are a hotel concierge or waiter, most normal men can't wear out a tuxedo before their waistline changes.  Yep, young banker wanker comes to HKG buys a tux for all the parties.....meets Ms. Hong Kong of his dreams....tie the big knot.....childrent....suddenly lifestyle changes....no more gym work or weekend b ball with the boys......bang...tux don't fit.

Donations can be dropped off directly at these shops which is one clue as to why more of the upmarket labels can be found here.  I believe most of the donations come down from the Peak and Midlevels.

When you Do Good, you Look Good, and you Feel Good!

And the whole world is attracted to you.

The Hugo Boss $350 Tuxedo

The total look including the jacket: $590.

A note about shoes, I don't buy them but you might buy them.  Formal wear usually calls for patent leather, which is not real leather but a halogenated plastic emulsion that finishes up shiny.  You would be enviromentally sound if you did buy them as that would keep the halogenated hydrocarbons out of the landfills.

Better you learn the tried and true military spit shine on any normal pair of leather shoes.  I actually suprised myself that I could still get that "Inspection" shine.

Sorry ladies, there is no commentary on the ladies clothes which are in good quantities there, and especially at St. John's where they are quite crowded with lady shoppers at times.
