Just the other week I was back in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I was finally able to time things up with Men’s Health there to finally do a cover shoot. I’ve been in touch with the editor for quite some time, and we finally put it all together. Needless to say, it’s a lot more work to do one of these shoots than I remember back when I popped up on Singapore’s very first Men’s Health issue in July 2003…
I guess one of the “good things” about these shoots is you’re definitely motivated to work out right before the camera starts flashing. The Malaysia staff definitely had a lot of experience with these shoots because they immediately brought in some free weights and told me to “pump up.” I kinda laughed because I had already done a quick workout back at my hotel and guess I had already “deflated” by the time we were really going to actually start shooting. Nevertheless, I went through an express workout to hopefully get “everything in the right place” and then we were off. We must’ve shot hundreds of various options for the MH team to choose from, and just when I thought the cover shoot was a wrap, I found out we still had another feature section at a local MMA gym in KL, which actually turned out to be really cool. I even got to give my favorite superhero “Hulk impression” before it was time to throw some punches…
Since I can remember, I’ve always been a strong advocate of working hard to look good so needless to say I’m totally opposed to airbrushing and fixing up shots using Adobe Photoshop. Hopefully, I gave the Men’s Health team what they were looking for and won’t need to spend too much time in post production. I can’t wait to see how the issue turns out later this year around August or September.
In the meantime, I’ll be sticking to this health and fitness buzz by making a trip back to Singapore soon to shoot a new exercise campaign for the Health Promotion Board (HPB). We’ve got an effective and comprehensive series of workout routines for all types of people so I’m looking forward to sharing this with everyone on how to get in the best shape of your life no matter how busy you may be.
As much as I have enjoyed living and working in Shanghai, it’s always a joy to get back to Southeast Asia, and I’m especially excited this time to be invited to stay at the ParkRoyal Hotel on Pickering so I’ll be sure to share about my stay and the upcoming shoot soon! Thanks again for dropping by and let’s get ready to get Pumped Up!
