You are invited to daydream with some of the world’s leading artists including Nathan Coley, Polly Borland, Futura 2000, Simon Birch, Cang Xin & Li Wei 4 May – 7 June 2012 (Hong Kong, 29 March 2012) Daydreaming with…The Hong Kong Edition a groundbreaking multi-media exhibition of over 30 local and international award-winning artists makes its Asia debut at the ARTISTREE, from 4 May to 7 June 2012. The pioneering exhibition is proudly supported by Swire Properties, a long-term patron of the arts.
This free to the public exhibition is a unique opportunity for visitors to experience multi-media artworks by leading creatives in Asia such as Cang Xin, Li Wei, Wing Shya, Prodip Leung, Jayne Dyer and Huang Rui, alongside celebrated artists from Europe and the US. This is a must-see, hear and feel exhibition that develops the original concept of Daydreaming with…James Lavelle, the London show that explored the marriage of art and music and achieved world-wide acclaim in 2010.
The Hong Kong edition of Daydreaming with… is curated by James Lavelle (UNKLE/ Mo’Wax Fame) and Hong Kong installation artist and painter Simon Birch, and presented by Future Industries, an innovative Hong Kong-based art organization responsible for Hope and Glory. The artists’ unique installations have been produced in response to music, much of it composed exclusively by UNKLE. The multi-media event which includes video, sculpture, painting and performance, celebrates artforms that cross borders between the senses.
This exciting new edition of Daydreaming with… features work by leading European artists such as 3D (from the band Massive Attack), Polly Borland, Ian Monroe, American graffiti legend Futura 2000, new work by former LMF star Prodip Leung, an installation by Turner Prize nominee Nathan Coley, a film installation by Doug Foster, and video art specifically produced for the exhibition by Wing Shya and Daniel Wu.
In 2010, Daydreaming with…James Lavelle gained critical acclaim with its imaginative re-working of a traditional exhibition, and this year the project grows in size, ambition and scope, as East meets West for a ground-breaking event in an exciting new context.

About the Project PartnersFuture Industries Future Industries is an art organization that facilitates innovative art projects in Hong Kong and the wider region. FI collaborates with private and public institutions, as well as community-based groups, to realize and promote art events that challenge the parameters of the white cube project room.
Simon Birch Installation artist and painter Simon Birch has been resident in Hong Kong for 15 years. He is widely recognized as one of the region’s most talented artists. In recent years he has ventured into mixed-media installation projects containing film, paintings, sculpture and performance housed in specifically configured space. The most notably of which was HOPE & GLORY held at the ArtisTree exhibition space in 2010 and Beijing in 2011.
James Lavelle James Lavelle is a world-renowned Producer, Label Owner, DJ, Music Maker and all round music eccentric. His musical career started at aged 15 when he ran block parties in Oxford. At 18 he started the Mo’Wax label, taking the name from his club night at the time, Mo’Wax Please. Around the same time he started the That’s How It Is night with Gilles Peterson, which went on to become one of London’s longest running nights.
A master of collaboration James Lavelle has turned UNKLE into a musical entity that feels equally at home scoring film soundtracks for the likes of Jonathan Glazier’s ‘Sexy Beast’ remixing tracks for Massive Attack, Queens of The Stone Age and Ian Brown, writing tracks that features vocals, by Ian Ashbury, Jarvis Cocker and Mark Lanegan et al, creating classical interpretations of UNKLE’s signature tunes with the Heritage Orchestra and pioneering the relationship between street artist and album artwork with Futura.

Since its launch, an eclectic program of high quality and unique events from the visual and performing arts world are staged.
