“Kung Fu Wildstyle” FAB 5 FREDDY x MC YAN

Here at alive,  we really love artist collaborations,  especially when the artists are from different genres or from different cultures and backgrounds.     We have a really awesome one coming up next week that we are pleased to help promote -  a cross over between Hong Kong's own MC Yanand New York Hip-Hop and Street art legend Fab Five Freddy, called "Kungfu Wildside".  Here's the info -  KUNG FU WILDSTYLE is an exploration of pop culture through contemporary street art. Hip Hop's original instigator FAB 5 FREDDY and Hong Kong's Graffiti and Hip Hop pioneer, MC YAN examine the influence of Bruce Lee and Kung Fu on 1970's New York City street culture and emerging Hip Hop scene, and how it comes full circle as Hip Hop influences a generation of Hong Kong street kids in the 1990's

Each artist uses original Bruce Lee film imagery as a focal point, and will create five new pieces of art

They will come together on OCTOBER 20th, 2012 in Hong Kong for a one-of-a-kind Pop Up Art Show starting at 7 PM, with refreshments, snacks and music by DJ WORDY and friends...66 Po Hing Fong, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong 66普慶坊，上環，香港

On OCTOBER 19th, Fab & Yan will co-host a screening of the seminal Hip Hop film WILDSTYLE at Hong Kong's underground music mecca HIDDEN AGENDA, with a reception, opening remarks and Q&A.

They will collaborate on a special limited edition signed KFWS tee shirt available at the screening and opening!

Kung Fu WildstyleEach artist will be given 5 original movie images – to re-imagine, manipulate and turn into a personal statement on the influence of the genre in their lives and Hip Hop. There will be no rules, no guidelines or barriers – just pure creativity. The ten original works of art will be displayed and sold at a week long pop-up show in at 66 PO HING FONG, in Sheung Wan, HK on October 20th.

Fab 5 FreddyFred Brathwaite aka Fab 5 Freddy - The legendary hip-hop pioneer who produced ‘Wild Style’ and started MTV’s Yo! MTV Raps. Downtown instigator and graffiti artist, he painted with Jean Michel Basquiat and was on the scene with Andy Warhol and Keith Haring and was one of the first graffiti artists to appear in a gallery show. Recently a featured artist in LA’s MOCA's 'Art in the Streets' exhibition, he will be presenting his work for the first time in Asia.

MC YanChenguang Ren, also known as MC Yan, is a pioneering Hip Hop and graffiti/street artist from Hong Kong. While studying art in France, Yan was exposed to graffiti and Hip Hop culture. Back in HK in 1993 he formed the seminal Hip Hop group LMF, which broke barriers in HK and Asia with their outspoken, raw lyrics and style. The group broke up in 2003 and reformed in 2009. Since then MC Yan has worked extensively on his art and design projects – most notably for Feiyue, Clot and Nike, through his musical and artistic partnership with pop star Edison Chen.Definitely not to be missed!
