Yesterday evening was DEX employee appreciation night so the big bosses took us to this swanky midtown red rope ensconced rooftop bar and treated us to bottomless alcohol and fancy bar grill food. The place was packed but Dexter and Daniel shelled out a pretty penny to secure a prime spot for us to enjoy the scenery and the company of each other. There was an "interesting" mix of people, a really diverse crowd-- but what stood out the most was the absolute lack of manners these particular bar patrons had.One group of women pushed Bri's drink aside and dropped their own on our table without even asking and when Bri politely informed them that the table belonged to our private party they looked at her and shrugged. When our waitress came by we asked her to take their drinks away, at which point, the girls reclaimed them. Another woman reached in front of Bri and dropped her empty glass on our table. When told that the table was ours, she simply picked it up, dropped it on another part of the table and quickly walked off as we all glared holes into her back.Naturally this led to a discussion about manners and the wolves who raised these people...which led me to remember this story...Little Sister decided to plan a picnic with some of our friends at Central Park and take advantage of the free summer concert that the Philharmonic Orchestra was giving this past Tuesday night. I opted out, as I spent the weekend entertaining a visiting friend and was too exhausted to make the trek.At some point she and our friend Rattana left the fenced picnic area to use the facilities and discovered upon their return that a family of four had decided to park themselves directly in front of the gate back into the picnic grounds in a narrow space which was clearly intended to be a walk way. So being the sweet person she is, Little Sister asked politely if they could kindly move over so that she and Rattana could reenter to join the rest of our friends and was met by a "We are not getting up for you." Followed by a "There's a hole in the gate, why don't you just crawl through it."A mother and a father, in front of their two school aged children. It's no wonder no one in this city has manners.
