DIVERSITY in COMICS! It's happening!! KINGSWAY WEST is about a Chinese gunslinger searching for his wife in an Old West overrun with magic.
So I grew up reading the X-men, Superman and all of these other wonderful superhero comic books with my friends. And sometimes we would claim certain heroes as our own because of some shared trait or similarity in our appearances, but for me, I always knew that I was stretching the furthest with that. I never came across a superhero that looked anything like me. And in a weird way, it made me think of myself as a second tiered person because people with my heritage wouldn't or couldn't be superheroes, we were destined to be normal. Thankfully I also grew up with wonderful friends and though I thought those things, they never mentioned them. But it's stories like this that motivates me to keep going with this career in the hopes that one day I'll get to play characters like Kingsway. And it makes me happy to think that someday there might be kids out there who'll pretend to be like me and maybe one day I'll finally get to meet them. And I'll tell them that they can be like me, it's possible, but I'll also tell them that they can better than me, they can be them.
It's a four issue miniseries written by Greg Pak (he also does the Totally Awesome Hulk!) and I'm totally pre-ordering this now! If you wanna pre-order too or just check out the cover, go to KingswayWest.com Art by Mirko Colak, colors by Wil Quintana, and letters by Simon Bowland. The first issue hits comic book stores on August 24!
Thank you for sharing the colourful pictures and words :)
