The band cast top supermodels Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Cindy Crawford, and Eva Herzigova as members of Duran Duran, Asian top model Cara Grogan as well taking a role in a nine-minute music video directed by Jonas Akerlund, who directed Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” video. The models do interviews and photo shoots as Duran Duran, surrounded by decadence and couture.
Duran Duran also brings us back to an era in which supermodels mattered. In recent years, many Americans would be hard-pressed to name a supermodel from this decade other than Gisele Bundchen. But in the ‘80s and ‘90s, the faces of Campbell, Crawford, Christie Brinkley, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer were nearly ubiquitous. Today’s models, such as Karlie Kloss, Agyness Deyn, Coco Rocha and Doutzen Kroes have name recognition in the industry, but not the “ We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day” entitlement of their predecessors.
