22 March 2013 (Hong Kong) ― Universally revered and multiple award-winning Hong Kong auteur WONG Kar Wai opened up to an audience of over 600 last night at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Cine Academy (JCCA) Master Class at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Getting over-subscribed within an hour after registration opened on 28 February, the Master Class was moderated by local critic YAU Ching-yuen and featured an extensive and illuminating discussion on the distinct aesthetics and recurring themes of Wong’s celebrated works, his envy-worthy experiences at prestigious film festivals from Cannes to Venice and to Berlin, as well as
, his latest and hotly discussed biopic that packs stunning action, philosophical musings, and mesmerising performances from Tony LEUNG Chiu-wai and ZHANG Ziyi among other stars.
Taking questions from the enthused audience, Wong said, “I am very delighted to have the chance to interact with the younger generation of cinephiles and filmmaking talents.”
Having brought JIA Zhangke and Keanu REEVES to town for its 2011 and 2012 editions respectively, the Master Class represents a unique opportunity for the local audience to get up close with world-class filmmakers. It is one of the seven initiatives in the pioneering film education programme, Jockey Club Cine Academy (JCCA),
organised by The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
