MATSUMOTO was regarded as one of the originators of Japanese New Wave with OSHIMA Nagisa, TADAO Sato, KOJI Wakamatsu and MASAHIRO Shinoda, who together established a film critic magazine in the 50s. MATSUMOTO is famous of his singular fusion of the avant-garde with elements of non-fiction cinema and counterculture, defying the limitation of visibility.Decades on the Road to Freedom: Postwar History through Recent Czech Cinema and Documentaries of Our TimesTheses 6 screenings of recent Czech series represent a unique programme in repertory cinema and mark the chronicle Czech history, from the Nazi occupation, confinement as a socialist state, to the rise of capitalism towards freedom preceded by the downfall of communism.
