The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) is proud to announce that Red Earth, the first short film produced by the HKIFFS, will be screened at the prestigious Horizons sidebar of the 67th Venice Film Festival.
Red Earth is also the only Hong Kong production, out of 68 films from around the world, officially selected to represent the territory at the Horizon showcase of the Venice Film Festival.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker, Clara Law and starring Asian superstar Daniel Wu, Red Earth was one of four commissioned films by renowned Hong Kong directors under the title Quattro Hong Kong in partnership with Brand Hong Kong.
The anthology of short films also included Herman YAU’s Fried Glutinous Rice, Heiward MAK’s We Might as Well be Strangers and Fruit CHAN’s The Yellow Slipper. The world premiere of Quattro Hong Kong was held during the inaugural Short Film Competition of the 34th Hong Kong International Film Festival.
“We are delighted that our first production with Brand Hong Kong has achieved such accolades and will showcase the talent and vibrancy of Hong Kong’s film industry at an international level,” says Shaw Soo Wei, executive director of the HKIFFS.
“As a global city with a long film history and culture, we are proud that Red Earth will showcase Hong Kong’s iconic backdrop which has served as inspiration for generations of filmmakers,” a Brand Hong Kong spokesperson said.
Red Earth is part of the film anthology Quattro Hong Kong, which will be screened at the Summer International Film Festival 2010 on the August 13, 27 and September 4. Tickets are available at www.hkiff.org.
