艾里奧柏堤的辛辣幽默：情婦謀殺案、草菅人命、查案記

艾里奧柏堤首部長片《情婦謀殺案》已為他日後關注政治謊言與貪腐的主題奠下基礎，大明星馬斯杜安尼不單首肯接拍，還推薦對手戲人選。《草菅人命》也是由馬斯杜安尼主演，儘管是科幻類型包裝，故事落在柏堤手中，對政治權力、社會剝削、性別與宗教，都有犀利諷刺。到了《查案記》，柏堤不單向警察及他們服務的權力開火，更發人深省地拆解權力施與受雙方的心理特質，勇奪當年康城影展評審團大獎及奧斯卡最佳外語片獎。

在9月16日的映後座談會中，劉嶔及張偉雄談到柏堤很受早期蘇聯電影，及意大利左派電影的影響，喜歡以電影作政治寓言，呈現電影跟政治的不解關係。柏堤的拍攝手法及敘事結構，更影響了一代的意大利導演，如安東尼奧尼等。

Elio Petri, the Italian Satirist: THE ASSASSIN, THE TENTH VICTIM and INVESTIGATION OF A CITIZEN ABOVE SUSPICION

In his directorial debut THE ASSASSIN, Elio Petri began to incorporate parody and black humor with blistering attacks on political power, law enforcement and crass consumerism with great effect. Petri's devastating satire on sex, religion, corporate sponsorship and human exploitation are taken to the extreme in the sci-fi parody THE TENTH VICTIM. Winning both the Palme d'Or at Cannes and Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars, INVESTIGATION OF A CITIZEN ABOVE SUSPICION is one of Petri's most accomplished work on authoritarianism and police corruption.

In the post-screening seminar on 16 Sep, critics Lau Yam and Bryan Chang talked about how Elio Petri's directorial style was heavily influenced by early Russian cinema and the leftist Italian cinema of the 1950s. He likes using films as parables to comment on the politics of the times. His narrative structure and mise-en-scene has influenced many great Italian directors, e.g. Michelangelo Antonioni.
