When it comes to freaks, no directors are more well-versed than #WoodyAllen and #TimBurton. Two of the most talented, and most eccentric, American directors undoubtedly have a special interest in weirdos: Allen plays Leonard Zelig in a mock-documentary about this “human chameleon”, a misfit with a severe psychological and physiological disorder who has become an instant celebrity; Burton partners with Johnny Depp in portraying the life of Edward D. Wood Jr., the American filmmaker who famously lacked talent in directing, but that didn’t stop him from churning out a string of campy exploitation films, showing his unrequited love to the cinema.
