三船敏郎的武士形象絕非虛有其表，連武術指導亦言曾被其凌厲眼神與凶暴面容嚇得膽戰心驚。演繹武士無數，但每個角色各自散發不同神韻：年少氣盛的宮本武藏刻苦修行終成劍聖；背負鬱結的刺客難逃宿命釀成弒父悲劇；忠誠忍辱的藩士力抗暴政拼死一戰。三船對角色全身投入，熟練武術，真身演出高難度武打動作。據說有次拍攝他一口氣砍斷數個敵人頸項時，出刀之快，用35毫米菲林竟未能成功捕捉，令人咋舌。

在7月8日舉行的座談會，講者鄭傳鍏和李焯桃談到三船年少時的軍人訓練和戰爭經歷，令他展現別具一格的硬朗和威嚴，演活無數武士和軍官角色。即使是文戲如《赤鬍子》亦極富重量感，眼神凌厲不怒自威，令他再度榮登威尼斯影帝寶座。

Known for his masculine portrayals of powerful warlords, #MifuneToshiro always presents his samurai role in a different compelling persona: a ferocious young warrior who refines his instincts and becomes a true samurai; a roguish ronin who is destined for Oedipus tragedy; and a humble swordsman who boldly confronts the feudal authoritarian. Mifune's majestic performance has impressed not only the audience but also his action choreographer, who found him genuinely intimidating during a scene when the actor came up with his bloodthirsty grimace and eyeballs peeled.

In the seminar held on 8 Jul, critics Cheng Chuen-wai and Li Cheuk-to mentioned that Mifune's military training and wartime experience had imbued his roles as samurai and army commander with unique ferocious intensity and majestic grace. His rugged individualism added dramatic weight to composed roles such as Red Beard, which won him the second Venice Best Actor award.
