在4月30日《勾魂十三》的映後談，講者馮嘉琪談到了解這部電影的一個重要課題是多層次的「play」︰人際關係的play；電影形式的play；演員即興的play；尋人解謎的play。利維特將巴黎變作playground，顛覆電影的傳統模式，甚至拒絕為結局作解釋，讓觀眾自行解讀。

This overlooked jewel from Jacques Rivette is a beguiling mystery about the riddles of love and art. Jane Birkin and Geraldine Chaplin star as actresses recruited by an enigmatic playwright to star in a new work that will take place in his labyrinthine mansion. But as life imitates art and vice versa, the two women find themselves drawn into a bizarre love quadrangle. Acting, magic and life are blended into an ecstatic stew in one of the director's most emotionally complex films.

In the post-screening talk of OUT 1 on 30 Apr, critic Kiki Fung said Rivette was subversive in his "play", defeating any expectation of traditional film in its length, narrative structure, acting, cinematographic style and even the ending. In his "reconstruction of the politics of filmmaking", he enabled the audience to contemplate the faded hopes of a whole generation.
